Election Night Newsroom

Tonight I had my first experience with being in an official newsroom setting at The Tribune.

The funniest part about it? I realized that, even though there was an important job to get done, people have to have fun. It's human nature. I always believed that once you entered the newsroom, you were strictly business until you were done and away from the job.

To put this story in context, our Contemporary Issues class was at the trib instead of the biweekly City Council meeting because of the elections being held in Greeley. It was a good chance for us to take a change of pace and see what a newsroom feels like, on a busier night.

My important realization came during the editorial meeting. As soon as I got into the room, I thought that an air of business surrounded me. I thought that there would be no wisecracks, laughing or happy thoughts allowed. I quickly realized I was mistaken as the strict business air was expelled out of the room and into it came an air of "busy, yet fun" as the meeting proceeded with many a wisecrack, many more smiles and all around enjoyable time ensued.

After the meeting, we set about observing the staff gather information, write stories and put together the paper while having a non-stressful time with many jokes and witticisms added in to keep things fresh.

Looks like I’m going to enjoy my time as a journalist.
